Beware of door to door furnace companies
Pushy door to door furnace sales agents can knock on your door, be prepared.
There are a number of door to door furnace and air conditioner companies who send agents to your door trying to sell you a new heating and cooling system. They use high pressure sales tactics and often lie just to get you to sign their contract. They often have very high rental rates and long term contacts that are hard to break on their equipment. Be very cautious if you open the door to a door to door furnace sales person. They do not work for government or any government agencies as they may tell you. Be prepared to ask the right questions if you decide to engage in a conversation with a door to door furnace sales person.
Here are some questions that you should ask before letting sales person in your home or signing any agreements:
What company do you work for?
Can you show me your ID or badge?
How long has the company been in business?
How many customers does the company have?
Can you leave me a copy of the agreement to reviews before signing anything?
Any trustworthy sales agent should have no problem with answering these questions and leaving you with a copy of the agreement. If a door to door furnace sales person is hesitant to provide you with the requested information this should ring a bell. You should ask sales agent to leave your home immediately and call the company they work for to verify the information.
Do not sing any rental agreements at the door! You should carefully read terms and conditions as it a contract. It may be very difficult to buy out of the rental contract and cancellation/ removal fees may be enormous. Some of those companies are even placing lien on customers’ houses.
Remember that you should only deal with heating companies that you call and request an appointment.
